How Do I Price A Freelance Project?
1. Why is my pricing project-based?
Every project is unique and should be treated as such. In my experience, each freelance project I undertake utilises my research, writing, or marketing skills to varying degrees depending on your requirements and goals.
I ensure that you receive the highest quality service by discussing project goals in detail, tailoring my range of services to your requirements, and delivering regular progress updates.
Applying a one-size-fits-all approach risks falling short of the bespoke service and high return on investment that you expect from working with me.
2. How much do you charge per hour?
Often, clients want to know how much I charge for a project per hour and how many hours a project will take to complete.
It is difficult to predict the number of hours a project will take to complete. While deadlines and time estimates are taken into account when discussing your project requirements, in my experience, charging clients by the hour does not factor in unexpected hurdles which may slow progress temporarily.
Whether you are hiring me to write a short blog post or collate 50,000 words of research, my rates factor in extra time to account for unexpected snags or last-minute changes. For previous projects, this framework has allowed me to complete projects ahead of schedule to the highest standard and go above and beyond my client's expectations.
Ultimately, you pay for the years of experience I have acquired, not the hours it takes me today, and this is reflected in the testimonials left by previous clients.
3. How much do you charge for the whole project?
Pay-per-project is my preferred method of working. This tried-and-tested model gives you the greatest level of freedom in tailoring my services to your project and ensures high return on investment for my bespoke packages. These factors will be discussed thoroughly during your free 30-minute consultation.
After your consultation, I will provide a quote with a clear breakdown of the services provided and estimated timeframes. There is no obligation and no hidden fees. Additionally, I am available to address any queries or concerns after your quote has been issued.
4. How do we get started?
Simply email me to book your free consultation and to discover the value that my years of experience in research, writing, and marketing will add to your project.
Got a query or concern?
To put your mind at ease, this FAQ addresses the most common concerns or objections that new/potential clients may have before working with me.
1. I'm busy. I don't have my diary with me. Call me back next quarter.
Oftentimes, my clients' busy workload is the exact thing preventing them from achieving a higher standard of research and writing in their projects.
To address this, I suggest booking in their free 15-minute consultation as soon as possible to secure their place and avoid missing out on the opportunity to work with me.
This booking is fully flexible, meaning the client can change the date/time of their free consultation once they know their availability.
2. We don't have the budget.
Investing in a bespoke service may be a primary concern for individuals or businesses on a tight budget.
Let's reframe this: Putting money aside, what needs to be achieved by the end of your project and what would you need to see from me in order for this to be worth the investment?
Many competitors offer copy-and-paste packages full of price-inflating but unnecessary extras. These packages might get the job done on time, but they often mean you have had to pay more overall to achieve the bare minimum of what you wanted.
Conversely, my bespoke research and writing services are built specifically to your project requirements, budget, and deadlines, guaranteeing high ROI, excellent customer satisfaction, and unequivocal project success.
3. It's not my decision. I need to ask my manager or business partner.
When you're not the decision-maker at your company, or you have a manager, a partner or board to answer to, you may be reluctant to speak to me about what my services offer.
When I'm prospecting, I often find that the people who don't make the "big decisions" become great ambassadors for my services.
Like me, these individuals are on the ground, getting to the root of problems, and putting in the work to solve them quickly. Put simply, they know first-hand what it is to be an academically rigorous, diligent researcher.
Furthermore, I would never expect a client to invest in my services without getting all relevant parties involved first, ensuring that everyone (including myself) is on the same page about project scope, desired outcomes, and my role in achieving them.
My philosophy is that collaboration is key. Therefore, when booking your free 15-minute consultation or any other meeting, you are welcome to invite any relevant parties to join the call.
